Meeting Minutes

September 14th 2004

The current financial report indicated a balance in checking of $3678 and a balance in the endowment account of $2105.  The sum of $800 will be transferred to endowment from checking.   A check was received in the amount of $54.26.   Bills in the amount of $347 were submitted for payment as part of the mini-grant to fund the butterfly garden project.

The trustees broke to tour the garden and found it to be extraordinary.  Apparently the Foundation seed money served as a catalyst for a brick paver walkway, lighting and extensive plantings.  Learning has occurred from this project that has incorporated numerous academic disciplines.

A request for sponsorship was received from Mr. Blevins. The proposal was made to have the Foundation act as a sponsor of an after school science program.  Mr. Blevins would donate 10 percent of his profits in return for the sponsorship.  The proposal was approved unanimously.

A lengthy discussion ensued regarding the benefits of using School Pop.Com for purchases.  A percentage of the purchase is donated to the Foundation at no additional cost to the buyer.  At this point it seems that only Sally and Richard are using the service.  If only 100 people were to use the service on a regular basis, a very significant amount of money could be raised with very little effort.   Mr. Sumpman indicated that he will try the service himself and then educate the school community about it via his experience.

It was also suggested that Mr. Sumpman revisit with the faculty a project worthy of funding in order to focus the fundraising efforts of the Foundation. A discussion ensured regarding options for memorializing Nell Harper.   A discussion ensued concerning a way to bring a puppet theatre workshop to the school.

It was reported that Erin Ashton was the recipient of the $1000 John Brehm Community Service Award, presented at an assembly at Kittatinny Regional High School.  A nice thank you note was received from Erin.

John G. is continuing to pursue a raffle license.  While not optimistic he is tenacious!

Although not discussed at the meeting, the minutes will reflect that the golf outing was a terrific success.  While two donations are outstanding, the outing raised approximately $4000.  All the golfers had a wonderful time and were quite generous with their contributions.  A tremendous "hat tip" to Roberta Eaton, who with her committee, insured that the outing would be a tremendous success.
